About Margot

Margot Holmes believes that nonprofits are some of the most important institutions in our communities and that the people leading them deserve infrastructure that actually works.

As the founder of Blue Heron Nonprofit Consulting, Margot brings more than 15 years of experience in the nonprofit sector, including direct service, program leadership, and executive management. She has a Bachelor's degree in Psychology with a concentration in child and adolescent development from Southern New Hampshire University and a Master's degree in Nonprofit Management from Northeastern University. Her background is rooted in early childhood and family support, and she has a deep appreciation for the complexity of running a mission-driven organization.

Margot's work focuses on building the operational and financial systems that help nonprofits function well - from grant infrastructure and budget development to staffing models, board governance, and organizational transitions. She has stepped into organizations in moments of significant change, helping leadership navigate what's broken, what's working, and what needs to be built from the ground up. Her approach is practical and relational: she invests in understanding how an organization actually operates before designing solutions meant to last.

Prior to consulting, Margot served as Executive Director of the Springfield Area Parent Child Center and held leadership roles with Easterseals Vermont and the Signing Time Academy. She has also served on several Boards of Directors, including as Vice Chair of High Horses Therapeutic Riding Center.

Margot lives in Sharon, Vermont, with her family and several four legged fur friends. She finds joy in cooking, walking with the dogs, and watching her son play hockey.
